My Thoughts On This Statement:
This statement is saying that someone will watch us and see what we are good at doing and figuring out what job we should get i.e. we don’t get to choose our own job, someone chooses it for us.
I disagree with this statement because I believe that every person in this world has a right to choose what they want to do for their whole life.
This will create classes that are worse than they are today; the rich will have access to education and the poor will not because they cannot afford it. Think of it this way, if I could not afford to go to school, then I wouldn’t have any skills that people think of as “useful” or “money earning,” does that make sense?
If you don’t like your skills and you want to learn different skills than you should be able to. This just goes back to the classes and how some people will be able to afford things while others can’t… 😦
A connection from from this statement to a book I read is The Giver by Lois Lowry. In this book people are given jobs based on their abilities, even though everyone isn’t very different… The Giver shows that in a lot of places people don’t have many choices. I suggest you read this book, it’s very good!
Another connection from this statement to a book is The Hunger Games. Within this book people grow up in very segregated districts, they don’t get to choose their jobs, it depends on their districts.
